A Graduate

I am officially a graduate of M-Tec!! That means no more homework/typing dictation. Now I can use what I know and get paid for it. If anyone wants to send me any graduation gifts/money I can give you my address! J/K

The Busby Budget

With a new job, a temporary paycut, and having to pay for health insurance I've decided to create The Busby Budget inspired by The Envelope System by Dave Ramsey. It's basically taking cash, distributing it into categorized envelopes according to a breakdown of what you spend your money on (clothes, food, gas, etc.). Once you run out of cash that's it. You can't spend anything else in that category. It recommends a savings envelope to put cash in if you have anything left at the end of the month. That can either go in a Savings Account or can be used for Fun Money. Hopefully we'll have some left to go in this at the end of the month. Wish me luck! Anyone else want to share their tips on saving money or what they do for budgeting?

New Year Equals New Beginnings

So it's 2010 and I haven't posted since October. Wow! Let's see....a few things have happened:
1) Lee turned 30 and I threw him a surprise party. He had no clue.

After playing golf in the cold weather he comes home to find everyone in the dark in the dining room waiting to yell surprise!

He loved the fact that I decorated the wall with baby pics of him- naked but and all.

"Just wait till you turn 30 Kari!"

2) We celebrated another Christmas together. We are now the proud owners of Band Hero and Super Mario on the Wii which by the way is more difficult than the Nintendo version. We stayed up until 1:30 the other night trying to pass another level on band hero. It's pretty much the same as Rock Band which I've never played though. We got booed off the stage twice due to the drums but in our defense it was a very fast song. Lee sticks to the guitar while I play the drums mostly. There are a few choice songs that we will sing though.

3) We celebrated another new years together with The Wiley's and The Maddox's with dinner at The Olive Garden and a night full of Wii playing. My arms were so sore the next day after sword fighting, bike riding, and canoe paddling.

4) I am leaving my current employer of 10 years! Yep you read that right. Since 1999 I have been working for the same office but I turned in my notice today. It was bittersweet but it is definitely time for a change. As of January 25th I will be a Medical Transcriptionist. I guess the course paid off. After 2-3 months I will be able to work from home! I am so excited and ready to begin my new career.

So that's mostly what's been going on in the Busby household. Bella weighs as much as Mason now and is only 7 months old.

That's Bella on the right. They were snuggling after a day of rain.

Vacationing

This has been such a fun vacation. The guys are about to grill dinner and of course watch the World Series. The guys went fishing earlier but didn't bring back any fish. I guess it's a good thing we went to the market and bought steaks and chicken or we would be out of luck. So I'll back up a few days and post what's been going on the last couple of days: Sunday we left Opelika and drove to Kiawah Island ( where we are staying: Dallas's parents have a house here and were so nice to let us stay here free of charge). We didn't get here until late so we stopped at a Fizoli's and had dinner. If you've never been to a Fizoli's it is basically fast food Italian. My spaghetti and breadsticks with a drink was $5.00. We definitely need one in Opelika. Monday we went to the Ocean Course to eat lunch. Just to eat and not play golf of course. A game cost approximately $200! We walked on the beach that afternoon. Monday night we grilled sword fish, corn, hush puppies, fries, rolls, and crab. It was a very good meal. The girls were only responsible for the hush puppies, fries, and rolls. We played a fun game of Trivial pursuit but the guys won. We came in a close 2nd though. Tuesday we spent the day in Charleston. We ate lunch at the Charleston Crab House and had the award winning She Crab soup. So yummy! We went and window shopped after that. We decided to go on a horse and carriage tour of the city and with our luck.....it started pouring during the tour. Oh well we had fun and learned a lot about the city. Today we had to go back into Charleston and get cupcakes at Cupkae. I had the red velvet cupcake. Delicious! I am sad to leave tomorrow:( I'll post pics later.

I'm still alive

Yes I'm still here! Football season is in full swing and each weekend we've either had company or have been out of town. This past weekend I was freeeezing at the game. We really didn't get a break from hot to cold weather. It was the 3rd weekend in October and I had to pull out my scarf and gloves. And the poor tigers couldn't pull out a win. Oh well I guess it was time for Kentucky to win since I heard they hadn't since the 1960s.
This coming Sunday we are leaving for Charleston. I am so excited. It's time for a much needed vacation. We are staying on Kiawah Island with our friends Dallas and K. Dallas's parents own a house on the island and have graciously offered their house for free!
I hope the tigers can pull out a win against the other tigers. We will be at the 2nd annual Wileyween trying to pull them through.
